In the ongoing Operation Devil Hunt, conducted by law enforcement agencies, 769 more individuals have been arrested from across the country. Since the operation began on the night of February 8th, a total of 8,079 people have been arrested by Saturday afternoon (February 22nd) over the past 15 days.
The information was shared by AIG (Media and PR) Inamul Haq Sagar from the Police Headquarters on Saturday evening.
He stated that under Operation Devil Hunt, 769 people were arrested in the last 24 hours. In addition, 572 individuals were arrested in other cases and warrants. In total, 1,341 arrests were made in 24 hours.
In the operation, several weapons were recovered over the 24-hour period, including one locally made single-barrel gun, two cartridges, four machetes, two daggers, one knife, one LG gun, and one scissor, as reported by AIG Inamul Haq Sagar.
The term Devil refers to 'Satan,' and Hunt means 'to hunt.' The operation’s name, Devil Hunt, signifies the act of hunting down 'Satan' or enemies of the state. The Ministry of Home Affairs has defined Operation Devil Hunt as an effort to bring anti-state groups, terrorists, and criminals under the law.
Operation Devil Hunt is a special campaign that started across the country on February 8th. On February 7th, a terrorist attack was carried out by Awami League-affiliated criminals on student activists in Gazipur. This attack, led by leaders and activists from the gov ernment-backed Awami League, resulted in several casualties and worsened the law and order situation.
Immediately after the incident, a high-level meeting was held with officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, law enforcement agencies, and other security forces, leading to the decision to strengthen the country’s overall security system.
As a continuation of this effort, Operation Devil Hunt was launched on February 8th.
